THE MORNING I TURNED PRETTY !
The morning I turned pretty wasn’t the day I wore the prettiest dress on a banging body, neither was it the day when everything decided to work in my favor, from my alarm ringing on time, to the early sunrise gracing my presence in a long while or the fact that, for the first time in a long time I was early. Rather, it was the day I could see.
I dreaded the idea of a bed not because mine wasn’t made but because it smelled of roses with the thorns draining me of blood, life and purpose. Nothing seemed to be working and yet I found solace in the sheets. Life always passed me by, procrastination my watch word and misery my companion. My daily routine had no structure, focus or stamina. It was my pretty mess, everything happening haphazardly and so out of control. I was in debt of time, money and freedom and still I found solace in the bed of roses whose thorns drained me of purpose and blood.
There comes a point where life and the choices you make pin you against the wall, no excuses, nothing works unless it is the right thing. I had reached that junction and the only way out was forward. I decided it was high time thue personality in the mirror should be a reflection of my personna. I mean what is the need of being this fine and intelligent with nothing to show for. I had been dwelling with mediocrity and I got tired of it taking the front stage.
The starting point was something simple. I needed a plan, to show up daily and consistently with no place to hide nor apologies ready for each and every mistake.
Rule 1: No more doom scrolling.
Rule 2: Write out a detailed plan of everything I am to be doing daily.
Rule 3: Ensure I show up daily, disciplined and consistent.
Rule 4: Read and read.
Rule 5: Journal.
This happened to be the hardest thing I did.I cried , I prayed, I told God I am done. I quit yet I couldn’t. Showing up was hard, discipline was a foreign concept, consistency non existential. Slowly but surely, I started showing up even when I never felt like it, on the days I felt utterly useless and a failure . It was quite a gruesome process for someone who had been living for years without any structure and system in place.
The morning I turned pretty was when I finally glanced in the mirror and the personality in there was a complete reflection of my persona. The morning I turned pretty was when I looked forward to living each day, when my eyes were open to see, I am a whole new person whose words were once again her honor. Yes!!! The morning I turned pretty was not the day I wore the prettiest dress on a banging body nor was it when everything worked for good in my favor. It was the day I could finally see I was fulfilling my true potential.
